Blog #3

Estella realized that she is just Miss Havishams puppet. Miss Havisham really just used Estella for her amusement and raised her to avoid being lonely. When Estella realizes this she is furious and tells Miss Havisham off. Pip finally realizes that Him and Estella are not made to be. It took him a while to see that Estella while never love him and is cold hearted. He always had hopes that one day they will be together, and now he sees that they wont. Estella will probably become even colder because she is detatched from Miss Havisham and has no one to watch her. She will probably not enjoy her marriage to Drummle because she was raised to break mens hearts. Pip will be depressed for a little and then hopefully get over it. But, I can picture him never getting over her. I predict that Pip will have a relationship with Biddy and have a complete change of attitude.

The meaning of the name Estella

The name Estella means star, and in Mrs.Havishim's eyes she is a star. Mrs. Havishim treats her as if she was a precious object. The way she pets her and praises her. A star is something that stands out and Estella certainly does. The way she is cold to everyone and treats men is interesting. She is cold hearted, which is very different than a star which is burning hot. Pip is awed by Estella becuase she is "...very proud....very pretty...very insulting" (61). The combination of these traits make her a beautiful and intriguing mystery to Pip, like when one looks at a star. Today, stars live a lavish lifestyle, and in our society they are the elite. Estella is part of the highest class much like stars of our day and age.

Mrs. Joe Character assesment

Mrs. Joe is a very aggressive angry woman who manipulates people to get what she wants. We know this because when"...she was quite desperate, she pounced on Joe". She takes her anger out on other people, sadly she is always angry. She raised Pip by "hand" basically beating into him different morals and ideals. Also, she enjoys feeling like she is in controll of the situation. But, she is very bitter that she had to raise Pip because she gets nothing out of it. This combination of bitterness and selfishness makes her almost unbearable. In order to get what she she intimidates everyone around her; like Pip who "...sat in the corner, looking on guiltily" while Joe was being beaten. They are afraid to defy her so they always do what she wants, and on the rare occasion they don't they get punished. All of this creates tension in there household and causes Joe and Pip to be very close. Even though she gets what she wants she is still unhappy. The more unhappy she is the more they get harassed.
