Blog #3

Estella realized that she is just Miss Havishams puppet. Miss Havisham really just used Estella for her amusement and raised her to avoid being lonely. When Estella realizes this she is furious and tells Miss Havisham off. Pip finally realizes that Him and Estella are not made to be. It took him a while to see that Estella while never love him and is cold hearted. He always had hopes that one day they will be together, and now he sees that they wont. Estella will probably become even colder because she is detatched from Miss Havisham and has no one to watch her. She will probably not enjoy her marriage to Drummle because she was raised to break mens hearts. Pip will be depressed for a little and then hopefully get over it. But, I can picture him never getting over her. I predict that Pip will have a relationship with Biddy and have a complete change of attitude.

  1. I agree with you Efrem that Estella is Ms. Havisham's puppet, and Pip and Estella are not meant to be. Pip realized this when Estella tells him that she will marry Drummle not Pip. Estella realizes when Ms. Havisham says break their hearts. Pip is devastated when he hears this and he asks her why she wants to do this. Estella confronts Ms. Havisham and tells her off.

  2. Justin, I agree that Estella is Ms. Havisham's puppet and that Pip and Estella are not meant to be together. However, Pip realizes that he is not meant to be together with Estella when he finds out who his benefactor is. When Pip finds out that the convict is his benefactor, he knows that Ms. Havisham tricked him into becoming a gentleman and that being a gentleman did not mean that he would be good enough to marry Estella. I agree that Estella is Ms. Havisham's puppet and that Ms. Havisham raised her for her amusement and to not be lonely. Estella is Ms. Havisham's puppet but Pip realizes that he is not meant to be with Estella when he finds out his real benefactor.

  3. I am challenging your claim, Efrem. I do not think that Pip will ever have a relationship with Biddy, nor do I predict that he will have a change of attitude. Pip thinks of Biddy as a friend, and even says that she isn't that pretty; therefore, there is no reason why he should want to have a romantic relationship with her. Also, I do not think that Pip will have a change of attitude. If he really wants Estella, he'll keep trying to be with her. It is obvious that Estella has always been rude to Pip, and Pip realizes this; consequently, he shouldn't let her rudeness in Chapter 38 change his views. In his heart, he still wants Estella, and that will not change.

  5. I think that Pip's sudden realization of the fact that was never meant to wed Estella was when he finds out that Magwich is his benefactor. And he realizes that Miss Havisham was not his benefactor I am challenging your analysis Efram. I do believe that Miss Havisham uses Estella as her puppet, and she had always meant for Estella to shatter his heart. But, Pip will always have a strong need to be with Estella. I also disagree with Annie's claim, Biddy was never meant to be with Pip, that was never the authors intentions. He was always meant to be chasing Estella. She was always meant to be the goal pip could never reach.

  6. I agree with almost everything you said. I agree that Estella realizes that she is just Ms. Havisham's puppet, and that after Pip sees that the Ms. Havisham is not his benefactor, Pip realizes that him and Estella are not meant to be. I also agree with Estella not being happy with her marriage to Drummle, as I believe it is more about payback to Ms. Havisham than it is about love, and that Pip may never get over this. What I don't agree with is that Estella will become even more cold-hearted, as I believe she will eventually change after her great realization. I also think that Pip still has hope that they will get back together, even knowing that Ms. Havisham is not his benefactor.
